Creating a baby registry with all the essentials can be overwhelming, especially when you’re a first time mom looking for natural, non-toxic options for your baby. That’s why I’ve created this baby registry checklist to make your preparations a whole lot easier.

This list has all the essentials you’ll need, and none of the fluff you won’t. I’ve done my best to include natural/non-toxic products that the average person could afford, wherever possible.

I LOVE Amazon.com for baby registries. Before you read on in this post, I highly recommend you create an Amazon Baby Registry. Amazon is a one-stop shop for all things baby, and because many people have an Amazon Prime account, your friends and family will be able to easily find the items you want–all from the comfort of their computer. You can also add items from any retailer so the options are literally limitless.

Plus, Amazon gives you a 10% off discount for all remaining items on your registry that don’t get purchased as gifts by friends and family. Not to mention, easy returns and free shipping over $25 (always free  for Prime members).

Click here to create your Amazon Baby Registry.

HOW TO USE THIS LIST

First of all, this is a no judgement zone. For whatever reason your baby registry checklist might include items that aren’t 100% natural, and that’s fine. You do you, mama! In no way is this list intended to make anyone feel judged for their choices.

The goal of this blog is to equip moms with the knowledge and resources to make natural living easier. Not harder or more stressful. I want you to feel uplifted and empowered from my content.

Second of all, use this list as a general guide to help you prepare your baby registry checklist. Add in (or subtract) whatever you feel you will (or won’t) need based on your lifestyle.

FEEDING ESSENTIALS

BREAST PUMP

Madela Harmony Manual Breast Pump:

I like having a manual breast pump on hand for quick and easy pumping without a lot of tubing and parts to wash. This one by Madela works great.

Madela Pump in Style Advanced Electric Breastpump

It’s also good to have a quality, electric breast pump, especially if you will be returning to work after baby is born. One can usually be obtained for free through your insurance. If you do end up needing to buy your own pump, this one has great reviews.

BREAST MILK STORAGE BAGS

Madela Pump and Save Breast Milk Storage Bags

If you want to be able to have a date night once in a while, it’s helpful to have breast milk stored away for your little one.

PLASTIC FREE OPTION

4oz. Mason Jars

For a plastic-free option, I’ve heard of some moms using small Mason jars like these to store their liquid gold.

NURSING PILLOW

Boppy Nursing Pillow and Positioner

I honestly see nursing pillows as optional. Although they can be really helpful when you’re first starting out, a lot of women end up not using them after they get the hang of breastfeeding. While I was learning how to breastfeed, my pillow went everywhere with me, but by the time my baby was a couple months old, I found that using a regular pillow to nurse worked just fine.

RE-USABLE NURSING PADS

Washable Organic Nursing Pads by Kindred Bravely

Nursing pads are essential for the first couple months of breastfeeding when breasts tend to leak a lot. I like that this brand can be washed and used over and over.

NATURAL NIPPLE CREAM

Motherlove Nipple Cream
With my son, the first week of nursing was rough and I used a lot of this stuff to soothe my sore skin.

NURSING COVER

Kids ‘n Such Nursing Cover (w/rigid neckline)

This nursing cover is perfect for helping an easily-distracted baby focus on feeding instead of his surroundings.

It’s also perfect for the moments you want some coverage for yourself. I like this brand because it has a wire sewn into the neckline, so mama can see baby’s face while he nurses. Plus the opening allows for air to flow through, so baby can actually breathe while covered.

BOTTLES

Lifefactory Glass Baby Bottle with Silicon Sleeve

For a plastic-free option, I’ve heard good things about this brand. Lifefactory makes their bottles from thermal shock resistant borosilicate glass, which means they can be transferred from cold to hot environments without cracking.

Comotomo Baby Bottle

These Comotomo brand bottles are a favorite of many moms because they’re low flow and similar in shape to the breast, making them a great option for the breast- or formula-fed baby.

BURP CLOTHS

Green Sprouts Muslin Burp Cloths

I love how thick and absorbent these Green Sprouts burp cloths are for catching spit-up and they work so much better than your shirt ;). Bonus: they’re made from 100% organic cotton!

PACIFIER

EcoPiggy Eco Pacifier

My son never really took to any pacifier, but some babies love them. I recommend the Ecopiggy brand because it’s plastic-free, made of 100% natural rubber.

HIGHCHAIR

Ingenuity SmartClean Trio Elite 3-in-1 Highchair

I LOVE this chair. It can be used as a highchair, booster seat, or a toddler chair that pushes right up to your dining table. It can also be used for two children AT THE SAME TIME since the toddler chair comes apart from the booster seat. We like this chair so much we have one at our house and one at my parent’s house.

SIPPY CUP

Pura Kiki Stainless Steel Sippy Cup

At least one good, reusable sippy cup, like the Pura Kiki, is essential to have around once baby starts eating solid foods. Look for stainless steel or glass options to avoid exposure to plastics when you can. I like Pura Kiki because it’s stylish and functional.

BABY UTENSILS

Kiddobloom Baby/Toddler Stainless Steel Utensil Set

Smaller utensils help baby learn how to feed herself and foster independence, appetite regulation, and confidence at mealtime. And they’re so darn cute!

1 BABY PLATE

Avanchy Baby Bamboo Suction Plate

This bamboo suction plate will help prevent the dreaded toddler plate toss. And it’s plastic free!

CATCH-ALL BIB

Silicone Bucket Bib by modern-twist

These silicone bucket bibs are GENIUS. The nifty bucket pocket catches all the food and liquids that baby drops (or spits out!), making clean up a breeze. And how cute is this sloth print?

SLEEPING

If you plan to cosleep like I did, you won’t need much! But if baby will sleep independently, here are some great product options.

BASSINET

Arm’s Reach Cosleeper

The Arm’s Reach Cosleeper can be used as a bassinet or, you can fold down the rail and push it against your bed for easy access to baby during the night.

 CRIB

Union 3-in-1 Convertible Crib

This crib can be used as a toddler or day bed as your child grows.

CRIB MATTRESS

Emily Natural Crib Mattress

I recommend this crib mattress by MyGreenMattress.com because it’s non-toxic and actually affordable compared to many other organic brands. Plus they offer a monthly payment plan!

MATTRESS PROTECTOR

Organic Crib Mattress Cover Pad by Baby and Brooke

2 CRIB SHEETS

Burt’s Bees 100% Organic Cotton Crib Sheet

These crib sheets are so soft and the stripe and bumble bee patterns are beautiful. Register for two so that when one inevitably gets soiled, you’ll have another on hand.

SWADDLE

HALO Sleepsack 100% Cotton Swaddle

This sleep sack can be used with arms in or out, so it is a great option for all babies, regardless of whether or not they like the feeling of being swaddled.

PLAY TIME

ACTIVITY GYM

Wood Frame Baby Activity Gym

Most activity gyms on the market are loud and overstimulating. I love this calming wood version because it engages baby without a lot of sound and lights.

BABY SEAT

Fisher Price Deluxe Rock n’ Play Sleeper

A great place for baby to nap or just chill when you aren’t holding him.

TEETHING TOYS

CALMIES Natural Rubber Teething Toy

Once your babe starts teething, they will want to chew on everything! I like that this teether isn’t plastic yet it’s squishy enough to satisfy baby’s need to chew!

Skwish Natural Rattle and Teether Toy

Another great option in natural wood that baby will enjoy as he grows older.

BOOKS

TotMart Baby Soft My First Word Book

I like baby books that have realistic photographs like this one.

CLOTHING

My rule of thumb for clothing is to register for simple and comfy indoor essentials, since you will probably receive TONS of adorable “going out” outfits at your shower. It’s SO fun to be surprised by all the cute clothes your friends and family will gift you.

Keep in mind that if you live in an extremely cold or hot climate (depending also on the time of year), you’ll need to register for items that are weather-appropriate. These are just a couple of ideas for simple indoor wear.

7-10 FOOTED SLEEPERS

Organic Cotton Zip Front Sleep ‘N Play Footed Sleeper

Footed sleepers are essential for keeping baby warm and snug. Look for sleepers without flame retardants, preferably organic cotton.

7-10 ONESIES

Burt’s Bees Organic Cotton Bodysuits (Set of 5)

I love that these onesies are organic, come in a pack of 5, and are gender neutral. They’re also very affordable.

DIAPERING

Every baby poops. Sigh. Whether you plan to choose disposables or cloth diapers, here are some natural options for your little one.

DIAPERS

Earth’s Best Diapers

Earth’s Best is a non-toxic brand known for its absorbency. A safe disposable diaper option for baby.

ALVABABY Cloth Diapers

ALVABABY makes affordable cloth diapers you can use again and again.

WIPES

WaterWipes Sensitive Baby Wipes

Reusable Cloth Baby Wipes

Many moms who cloth diaper also find it’s easy to use reusable cloth wipes. These by Charlie Banana are organic cotton, but regular washcloths would serve the same purpose.

DIAPER RASH OINTMENT

Baby Balm Herbal Salve by Earthley Wellness

If you’re interested in a diaper rash cream that is made from 100% clean ingredients, then look no further than this baby balm by Earthley Wellness. Every single product this company makes is completely chemical-free. Just check out some of the awesome reviews for this balm on Earthley’s website!

DIAPER PAIL + 2 LINERS

If you cloth diaper, you’ll need a diaper pail to hold your dirty diapers until laundry day. Keep at least a couple of liners on hand and throw the dirty one in the wash with the rest of your nappies!

If you use disposable diapers, you don’t technically need a seperate diaper pail, but it doesn’t hurt to get one if you have the extra space.

ON THE GO

INFANT CARSEAT + STROLLER COMBO

Safety 1st Smooth Ride Travel System

I’m a huge fan of travel systems like these that come with an infant car seat and a stroller onto which you can connect your car seat. Once your child outgrows the infant seat, you’ll still be able to use the stroller while on the go.

Britax Boulevard Clicktight Convertible Car Seat

Britax is well-known for its impeccable safety standards and ease of use. I like convertible car seats because they can be used for at least a couple years of your child’s life, depending on the minimum and maximum weight requirements. If I could do it all over again, I’d go straight to the convertible carseat and skip the infant seat altogether.

BABY CARRIERS

Tuck and Bundle Merlot Baby Wrap

A quality baby-wrap is essential for the newborn stage. You can keep baby close and content while getting things done!

Ergobaby 360 All Carry Positions Baby Carrier

Ergo Baby is the creme de la creme of baby carriers and for good reason. This carrier can be used from infancy through toddlerhood. It also keeps baby’s back and hips properly positioned.

I think it’s wise to register for both a wrap and a structured carrier because they’re each useful in different ways.

See my post How to Pick the Right Baby Carrier for more information on how to choose the carrier that’s right for you and your baby.

 PORTABLE CHANGING MAT

Baby Portable Changing Pad

DIAPER BACKPACK

Ruvalino Diaper Bag Backpack

Do yourself a favor and register for a diaper backpack! It makes #momlife so much easier. I was originally gifted a beautiful diaper bag which I used for a while, but it was really hard to carry baby with a bag over my shoulder. I ended up switching to a diaper backpack and never looked back.

BATHING/HYGIENE

BABY BATH

Angelcare Baby Bath Support

BABY SOAP

Kid’s Fun Shaped Gentle Body Soap by Earthley

I’m going to rave a little more about Earthley here. Earthley is an AMAZING company that uses 100% clean and natural ingredients in all of its products. They’re family-owned and much more affordable than many other natural body care companies on the market. They also use very little plastic packaging. And how cute is their butterfly shaped soap for kids?!

TOWELS

Natemia Extra Soft Rayon from Bamboo Hooded Towel

Natemia’s hooded towels are super soft and much larger than most baby towels I’ve seen. We have their grey raccoon-ear version and my son gets a huge kick out of seeing himself in the mirror while he wears it.

WASHCLOTHS

Green Sprouts Organic Muslin Washcloths

These washcloths are soft and heavy-duty at the same time, plus they’re super pretty.

HAIR BRUSH

Natemia Wooden Baby Hair Brush and Comb Set

We love our Natemia brush and comb set. Each piece is beautiful and the soft-bristled brush is perfect for newborns. As a toddler, my son loves brushing his own hair with the hard-bristled brush. Even my husband uses it on himself sometimes!

NASAL ASPIRATOR

NoseFrida

Whoever invented the Nosefrida deserves a medal. This thing makes sucking snot from your child’s nose way better than you would think. And that’s saying a lot.

NAIL CLIPPERS

NailFrida Snipper Clipper Set

Baby nails are like tiny talons that are nearly impossible to trim. Having the right tool for the job makes all the difference!

THINGS YOU SHOULDN’T REGISTER FOR

BABY BLANKETS

You will get a TON of these. Trust me.

CHANGING TABLE

For the first few months we set up a diapering station on our bedroom dresser with a foam changing pad. Once my son learned how to roll over, we ditched the dresser and pad altogether and started changing him anywhere and everywhere. A simple towel or blanket underneath baby works great to catch potential messes.

EXTRA CLOTHING

As I said before, you’ll receive a lot of cute outfits for your baby at your shower, so it’s best to skip registering for clothes other than indoor essentials.

STUFFED ANIMALS

Another shower gift that guests love to give in abundance.

BABY FOOD MAKER

If you want to puree your baby’s food, it’s easy enough to use your own blender or food processor for this. Or you could try baby led feeding and skip the purees altogether!

LOTS OF TOYS

As your baby gets older, you’ll accumulate a lot of toys. Resist the urge to buy now.
